Personal Profile

I see one of my major strengths being my adaptability. I don't mind wearing different hats when the need arises - whether it be one of UI design, visual designer, or photographer. However, no matter what hat I'm wearing, I put myself behind the task at hand.

I have a lot of experience working with engineers, so I'm comfortable working with teams or putting my nose to grind stone and working alone.

Career History

Gaia Interactive, Inc - July 2006 to present
User Interface Designer

Gaia Online is one of the leading social networking sites for 13-21 year-olds, with over 8 million unique visitors each month. I am involved in most of the company's high-visibility releases.

I've had my hands in most major projects on the site, but my main focus is "Gaia Events" wherein a small, team has to create a new, fun gameplay event for our millions of users every few months all while working on other projects as well. This has taught me to work incredibly quickly and manage my time carefully.

EightOctave LLC - May 2005 to July 2006
UI/Visual Designer

I was the sole designer for this small, efficient start-up. I would not only work on interface and visual design of websites, but also create print materials for our clients, such as brochures, corporate identity and photography.

InfoSpider, Inc - September 2001 to May 2005
Senior Visual Designer

I worked for a subsidiary of InfoSpider, Inc that focused on e-commerce and brocher website design. I worked very closely with our internal SEO engineers to design websites that would bring our clients a considerable amount of qualified traffic.

Freelance Design & Photography - July 2000 to present
Freelancer

Working as a freelancer was my first foray into the professional world of design and photography. I've been lucky enough to work with many great clients during this period including: Fujitsu, Blendz, MoveOn.org, Sunset Magazine, local politicians, restaurants and other businesses and organizations.

Education

De Anza College - October 2000 to June 2004
Assoc. Arts - Commercial Photography
Assoc. Arts - Fine Art Photography

Technical Proficiencies

I have extensive experience with a ton of applications and technologies. Here are the one I use on a regular basis:

Adobe Photoshop
I have been using Photoshop extensively since 1996 and consider myself to be an expert user. I use Photoshop for creating layouts for most of my designs as well as retouching and manipulating photos.

Adobe Lightroom
Lightroom is my favorite software for my RAW photo flow and the first step in my overall post workflow. I've been using it for three years now and am an intermediate user.

Adobe Dreamweaver
Before Adobe bought Macromedia, I used Homesite to handcode sites. Now that Homesite is no longer supported I use Dreamweaver for my editing needs.

Adobe Illustrator
Although I am more comfortable with pixels rather than vectors, I have had plenty of experience creating layouts and workflows with this application.

HTML/CSS
While in the past 5 years I moved into a visual/user experience role, I am still familiar working with basic coding when the need arises to demonstrate my designs.

Photography
I love cameras. I have two degrees in photography and spend most of my free time with a camera in my hand. I'm good with these things: Canon bodies & lenses, large format cameras (4x5), printing, digital post-process, film & digital. I've done work for resturants, boutiques and local organizations.

Hobbies, Interests & Personal Qualities

I'm friendly, funny and always eager to help a friend. I'm really into capoeira (a brazilian martial art), cooking and photography. I'm also pretty into art and music, but really, who isn't? I also like to volunteer at a local urban farm.

Thanks for taking the time to look over my resume. If you haven’t already done so already, check out my portfolio.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,
